Nothing sweeter than a baby kitten!
You can have your cake and eat it too!
Every year we try and hit the Denver Zombie Crawl on the 16th Street mall. I'm always amazed by the effort, creativity and tenacity that people put into their zombie, and other fright-inducing, costumes. I also love the variety and cross section of the participants. This year was another good one with lots of gory eye-candy and some unique takes on the zombie look. We went with friends and family; my niece as a zombie hunter, and her dad, my friend Chris, in his horse head mask- which proved to be just as popular with the crowd as anything else we saw.
Being a lover of most things vintage and retro, classic cars are definitely something I love to look at and photograph. The colors, the curves, the way the light strikes chrome...
The Golden Cruise (Golden, CO), held on the first Saturday of every month (May-October) is a great place for seeing some of the great classic cars. I was able to get these shots in July. It was a little tricky in the midday sun and with so many people walking around, so getting details rather than full vehicle shots was the plan that day.
The truck in the first image, the green Chevy Apache, is something I pretty much fell in love with on the spot...
I've worked with Adriana before and she's one of my favorite people to photograph - she's up for anything and really puts herself into the shoot. Bringing a great energy, with both sass and laughter and a quiet thoughtfulness alike, its always a great experience. This time, we tried our hand at some waterworks. Its harder than it looks keeping a straight face, let alone a graceful and emotive one, while getting sprayed with a hose - not to mention by the end of the shoot she was shivering with goosebumps from the cold.
The shoot was done on my rooftop with a backdrop, one strobe beauty dish, another accent strobe and a plain old garden hose.
The following shots were my favorites from the shoot... the first shot being one that I performed some photoshop magic on...definitely one of my new favorite images.
We also did a few shots with the beautiful greens of early summer as our inspiration...
Its always inspiring when you see someone try something different, set goals and then actually reach those goals.
Karen recently competed in the NPC Axis Labs Northern Colorado Bodybuilding competition - the Figure Open and Novice divisions. In her own words, "I did the show as a personal challenge to test my limits within the exercise and fitness arena and to have the experience of competing to potentially help other competitors through my personal training work at the gym." In working with her trainer Mark, she lost 16 pounds and 10% of her body fat.
Karen is a trainer at the gym I go to and I approached her some time back about doing some fitness modeling. It's not too often that I get to work with someone so fit and she had a wonderful and open attitude during the shoot as well, considering she hadn't done a shoot like this before.
The following images are from our shoot a few weeks back - both studio and on-location in downtown Denver.
For the last six years, every February or March, I've been going to Scottsdale, Arizona to visit with family and friends. And while it's always a wonderful respite from winter in Colorado, this year was especially good because I was there late enough in March to catch some of the desert blooms.
Anyone that knows me, knows that I love a good road trip and driving through Arizona is amazing - there's a little bit of everything. And reaching the Sonoran Desert, where we stayed, is such a beautiful and mystical destination point and it's where I focused my photography this year.
To start, I couldn't resist throwing this shot from the road in first...
